Ha Long Bay
If this is your first time visiting northern Vietnam, Ha Long Bay is probably the place you have seen in photos. The bay is famous for its dramatic limestone islands, emerald-green water and beautiful caves.

Lan Ha Bay
Just beyond Cat Ba Island, Lan Ha Bay feels a little different. Kayaking and swimming are popular here, and you can easily combine your time on the bay with exploring Cat Ba Island. If you enjoy being outdoors and don't want to spend the whole trip just sightseeing from a boat, Lan Ha Bay is worth considering.
Bai Tu Long Bay
Heading northeast from Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay offers a more laid-back side of the region. You will still see the beautiful limestone islands, but the experience is more about nature, beaches and local life. It is a nice choice when you want to slow down a little, enjoy the scenery and see fishing villages and less-visited parts of the bay area.
